Stirling Albion boss Greig McDonald was a happy man as we booked our place in Tuesday afternoon’s draw for the second round of the Petrofac Training Cup with a 3-0 win over Elgin City at Borough Briggs on Saturday.
A superb strike from Darren Lee Smith broke the deadlock early in the second half, Gordon Smith scored from the spot after Matthew Cooper had been sent off and the ex-Raith forward added the third goal in 78 minutes.
McDonald said: “We set the team up to attack – thankfully we got the first goal and the confidence grew from there. It’s a great start to the season with a clean sheet and three goals. To be honest, it could have been more.”
Elgin City manager Barry Wilson said: “We were the better team in the first half. We played some good football and created some great chances but as soon as they scored the first goal we threw in the towel and that’s not acceptable.”
