Greig McDonald’s men make the long haul north to play champions Peterhead on Saturday. We are two points behind third-placed Clyde – who we face at Forthbank next week – and three ahead of Berwick Rangers, who have a better goal difference.
Trophy: Peterhead will receive the League 2 trophy after the game. Jim McInally’s team clinched the title with a 2-0 win at Clyde a fortnight ago to secure their first silverware since joining the senior set-up in 2000.
Team news: Ross McGeachie is a doubt but fellow defender Jamie Bishop returns after a one-match ban. Peterhead are set to be without 30-goal Rory McAllister, who required stitches in a leg injury sustained in last week’s 2-0 win over Albion Rovers.
Match facts: Peterhead are unbeaten at home in League 2 this season and have scored in every league match at Balmoor in 2013/14. The Blue Toon are seeking a 10th straight home win since being held to a 1-1 draw by Albion Rovers on December 14. We have lost just two of our last 11 matches and have scored twice in each of our last five fixtures, winning our most recent away games at Annan and Albion Rovers.
Past meetings: A Rory McAllister hat-trick condemned us to a 3-1 defeat at Balmoor just before Christmas on a day when on-loan Rangers defender Luca Gasparotto was sent off and Ross Forsyth scored our goal. We beat the Blue Toon 2-0 at Forthbank in August but went down 2-1 at home in February. Both Balmoor encounters last season ended all square – 2-2 and 0-0 – and we haven’t won in the North East in eight visits since a 3-2 success in December 2006.
