Craig Gunn grabbed a late equaliser as we were pegged back by Elgin in a rearranged fixture at Forthbank on Tuesday night.
The free admission, with donations to our charity partner the John Hartson Foundation, attracted a healthy crowd of 641 but it was ultimately a disappointing evening on the pitch. The point was enough to lift us back into the play-offs but only on goals scored from East Stirlingshire.
Binos boss Greig McDonald made five changes to the team beaten 1-0 at Ochilview on Saturday, with David McClune and Kieran McAnespie (suspended) and Darren Smith (injured) ruled out, while David Weatherston and Jamie Bishop dropped to the bench.
Chris Smith, back after four months out with a knee injury, Phil Johnston, Danny Ashe, Sandy Cunningham and Stephen Day were all drafted in but once again we struggled to create clear cut-chances in the first half.
We were fortunate to escape when Smith appeared to foul Gunn on the edge of the box but it was Albion who were left aggrieved just after the break when Day had a good penalty shout but instead was booked for diving.
We looked on course for a vital win when Cunningham latched on to a perfect pass from Jordan White and slammed a low shot past Ray Jellema five minutes after half-time for his sixth goal of the season.
Smith had a header cleared off the line and White fired over from close range but it looked as if one goal would be enough to give us our second victory over City in the space of a few weeks.
However, with five minutes left, Paul Harkins’ corner was met by the unmarked Gunn and he beat David Crawford with a fine first-time shot into the corner.
Elgin, with only two away wins all season, finished strongly and Harkins came close with a curling effort from 25 yards before we had another narrow escape in stoppage time when the ball was scrambled off the line.
