Peterhead moved seven points clear at the top of League 2 as we slipped out of the promotion play-off places after a first home defeat since September.
Rory McAllister gave Jim McInally’s men the lead midway through the first half when he capitalised on an error by Danny Ashe and rounded keeper Callum Reidford to score his 17th league goal of the season.
Jordan White headed the equaliser from a Craig Comrie corner nine minutes after the break but Fraser McLaren ran to a long ball and beat Reidford with a fine angled finish just 60 seconds after coming on as a substitute to grab a 67th-minute winner.
Binos boss Greig McDonald made three changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Montrose the previous week, with Reidford, Darren Smith and Ashe replacing David Crawford – who missed out due to a family bereavement – David McClune (injured) and Sandy Cunningham, who dropped to the bench.
Also among the substitutes was ex-East Fife and Bo’ness United keeper Stewart Baillie, who was listed as a trialist to provide cover for Reidford.
Peterhead came into the game on the back of just one defeat in 12 games and a strong first-half display paved the way for a deserved victory as they gained revenge for a 2-0 defeat here in August.
McAllister, who claimed a hat-trick at Balmoor in December, could have bagged another treble but missed good chances before and after breaking the deadlock.
We enjoyed a good spell in the second half and White notched his 12th goal of 2013/14 before Comrie missed a glorious opportunity to give us the lead, dragging his shot wide after being set up by David Weatherston.
Winger Phil Johnston, a half-time replacement for skipper Jamie Bishop who suffered a head knock, made a difference but he himself had to go off injured shortly after ex-Berwick forward McLaren had scored for Peterhead.
Reidford made a smart stop to deny Blue Toon sub Ryan McCann while Comrie passed up a stoppage-time chance to equalise as the visitors made it nine wins in 11 games.
