League 2 leaders Peterhead visit Forthbank on Saturday as we bid to close the nine-point gap on Jim McInally’s men. We go into the game fourth in the table after drawing 0-0 with Montrose at Links Park last week while the Blue Toon saw their Balmoor clash with Annan abandoned due to high winds.
Team news: Central defender Chris Smith remains out after knee surgery and the game is likely to come too soon for Kieran McAnespie, who suffered a hamstring injury at Berwick last month. One or two other players are carrying knocks and will be assessed before the match. Graham Weir is available but will miss next week’s game with Albion Rovers due to a one-match ban. Peterhead are without midfielder Dean Cowie, who has broken a bone in his foot.
Facts and figures: We are unbeaten at home since losing to Annan in September. Peterhead have won eight, drawn one and lost one of their last 10 matches – the only setback coming in a 2-0 defeat at East Stirling on January 11. Rory McAllister is the top scorer in League 2, with 16 goals so far.
Recent meetings: Goals from Dale Fulton and Phil Johnston earned us a 2-0 win at Forthbank in August when Jamie Bishop and Andy Rodgers were sent off late on. Luca Gasparotto saw red when we lost 3-1 at Balmoor just before Christmas, Rory McAllister scoring a hat-trick. Last season brought a 1-0 win apiece at Forthbank and two draws in the North East.
