New signing Darren Smith is hoping to start against leaders Peterhead at Forthbank on Saturday after making his debut as a late substitute in the 0-0 draw with Montrose at Links Park.
The 33-year-old former Berwick and Alloa midfielder, who made the move from Arbroath on Friday, has good memories of his last outing against the Blue Toon.
He said: “I was involved in the play-offs last season with East Fife when we beat Peterhead to stay up. No-one gave us much of a chance because we had been on a terrible run so it just shows you that anything can happen.
“There is a good mix of experience and younger players here and there is definitely enough quality to at least make the play-offs, although our aim is to catch Peterhead.
“I have a new job in Edinburgh and was looking for a club in the Central Belt – I had other offers but this felt like the right move for me and I’m looking forward to it.
“I played the majority of games in a sitting midfield role for Arbroath, trying to get on the ball and make things happen – I’ve got Thursday night at training to persuade the gaffer I should start on Saturday!”
