The second half of Stirling Albion’s League 2 campaign gets under way against bottom club Queen’s Park at their temporary home of Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium on Saturday as Hampden is being revamped for the Commonwealth Games. Last week’s late win over East Stirlingshire lifted us back into the play-off places but we are without a win in seven away league outings.
Our opponents will again have Richard Sinclair in temporary charge as they seek a new manager following the pre-Christmas departure of long-serving Gardner Speirs.
Team news: Chris Smith is still sidelined after knee surgery and winger Stephen Day is missing because of work commitments. There are doubts over Kieran McAnespie and David Weatherston but on-loan Rangers defender Luca Gasparotto is available before jetting out to Florida for a training camp with the Canada squad on Sunday.
Match facts: Queen’s Park ended a six-match losing streak when they came from behind to beat Clyde 2-1 at Broadwood last weekend thanks to a Tony Quinn penalty and a winning goal from teenager Thomas Collins. The Spiders have lost their two ‘home’ games since moving to Airdrie – 1-0 to Montrose and 4-0 to Berwick. We haven’t won away since beating Queen’s Park in August and have lost our last two on the road to Albion Rovers and Peterhead.
Past meetings: Late goals from subs Mark Ferry and Sandy Cunningham gave us a 2-0 win at Hampden at the end of August and it was 3-0 in our favour at Forthbank in November. Dale Fulton gave us the lead just before half-time and the visitors had James Brough sent off before Cunningham and Bradley Coyne scored late on.
