Stirling Albion begin 2014 with a home match against local rivals East Stirlingshire in a fixture that was originally scheduled for January 2 but was pushed back to what would have been a blank Saturday at the request of the clubs. Shire are one point above us in the League 2 table as we reach the halfway stage in our campaign.
Team news: On-loan Rangers defender Luca Gasparotto is available following a one-match ban and teenage midfielder Craig Comrie is likely to be added to the squad after signing from Falkirk. Striker Bradley Coyne and defender Jamie Clark this week left the club. Defender Chris Smith is still sidelined after knee surgery and winger Stephen Day misses out due to work commitments.
Facts and figures: We have the best home record in League 2, with five wins, one draw and two defeats but only leaders Peterhead have picked up more points on their travels than East Stirlingshire. They beat Elgin 1-0 in their last away match and drew 2-2 at home to Montrose last weekend while we hit back to draw 1-1 with Clyde.
Recent meetings: John Coughlin’s men were deserved 3-1 winners at Forthbank in August – their first victory in Stirling since August 1985 – while it was 2-2 at Ochilview in November when Jordan White scored both our goals. It was honours even last season, with a win apiece and a pair of 1-1 draws. Our 9-1 success in March was a new record league win for the club.
