Stirling Albion travel to Coatbridge on Saturday to face an Albion Rovers side on a high following their Scottish Cup win over Motherwell at New Douglas Park last weekend.
Rovers followed that up with a 3-2 home victory against East Stirlingshire on Tuesday while Greig McDonald’s team make the journey to Lanarkshire on the back of a 3-1 midweek win over Berwick. We have lost just two of our last 11 league and cup games – against Clyde and Alloa – and are in second place in League 2, two points behind leaders Clyde. James Ward’s men are in seventh spot but are only three points short of the top four and have a home record of three wins, one draw and three defeats.
Team news: Defender Chris Smith is out after undergoing knee surgery this week and midfielder Mark Ferry is still sidelined with a foot injury. Winger Stephen Day is unavailable due to work commitments. Rovers are missing Pat Walker, Kevin Nicoll and Peter Innes and Mark Shankland has returned to Ayr after his loan spell.
Past meetings: We won 2-1 at Forthbank in a midweek match at the end of October thanks to goals from Phil Johnston and Dale Fulton but Rovers played with 10 men for 70 minutes after Scott Chaplain was sent off. We won both meetings at Cliftonhill in season 2010/11 and are unbeaten in 11 matches against the Coatbridge club since a 2-1 defeat in April 2003.
