We go into Saturday’s home game against Queen’s Park three points behind leaders East Stirlingshire. Our visitors might be bottom of the table but the Spiders are in good recent form and are unbeaten in their last four League 2 matches, conceding just a single goal in each of those fixtures. We are seeking a third straight home success on the back of recent Forthbank victories over Montrose and Albion Rovers.
Team news: David Weatherston returns to the squad against his former club for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-2 home draw with Whitehill Welfare in the Scottish Cup on October 5. Brian Allison remains out long term after undergoing knee surgery during the summer. Keeper David Crawford hopes to be fit after an ankle knock against East Stirling last week saw him replaced by Callum Reidford in the closing stages.
Season so far: Queen’s Park endured a difficult start to the season, losing their first five matches in League 2, but they have been much improved of late and their only defeat in the last seven outings was 3-2 at Ayr in the Scottish Cup. Gardner Speirs’ side won their most recent away League 2 game 2-1 at Montrose and held in-form Clyde to a 1-1 draw at Hampden last weekend. Albion have also lost just once in seven games since our 4-0 hammering at Elgin at the end of September.
Recent meetings: We failed to beat Queen’s Park in any of the four meetings last season, picking up one point out of six in Glasgow and losing 2-1 and 3-2 at Forthbank. We came out on top in the first encounter this season, with substitutes Sandy Cunningham and Mark Ferry scoring late in a 2-0 win at Hampden.
