We make the short trip to Ochilview on Saturday to face leaders East Stirlingshire in what is a big game in League 2. Shire hold a two-point advantage over Annan – we are just a point further back and could end the day top of the table if results go our way.
Greig McDonald’s men go into the game on the back of four wins out of five in league and cup – the latest of which was the 3-0 defeat of Turriff. Shire lost 2-0 to in-form Raith Rovers in their Scottish Cup tie on Sunday but defeated Annan 2-1 at Galabank in their most recent League 2 encounter on October 29, the same night we got the better of Albion Rovers at Forthbank.
Team news: David Weatherston has returned to light training after a month out with a hamstring injury but Saturday’s game comes too soon for the former Falkirk forward. Bradley Coyne is doubtful due to illness but Graham Weir returns after missing last week’s win at Turriff. Shire are without winger Max Wright, who suffered an injury in a reserve game against Airdrie on Monday.
Recent meetings: John Coughlin’s side ran out 3-1 winners at Forthbank in August and our only win four attempts last season was the record-breaking 9-1 victory in March. There were two 1-1 draws and a 3-1 victory for Shire. We had players sent off in both Ochilview encounters last season, Scott Davidson and Gary Thom seeing red.
Random fact: East Stirlingshire’s home record is identical to our away record – two wins, one draw and two defeats
