Albion face a Scottish Cup second-round replay at Ferguson Park in Rosewell next Saturday after being held by their Lowland League opponents at Forthbank.
Both clubs will now take their place in Monday afternoon’s third-round draw and our League 2 game against Albion Rovers next weekend will require to be rearranged.
Boss Greig McDonald made two changes to the side that lost 4-0 at Elgin, with Danny Ashe and Kieran McAnespie replacing Ross Forsyth and Stephen Day.
We started well enough and David Weatherston – who was forced off after an hour with a hamstring injury – was denied by keeper Ryan McGurk when clean through.
A trip on Phil Johnston by Gareth Thom earned the Binos a penalty midway through the first half but Jordan White saw his kick brilliantly saved by McGurk.
Five minutes later, Welfare took the lead. Andrew Kidd’s free kick was met by towering striker Wayne McIntosh and he sent a powerful header past David Crawford.
Aaron Somerville could have doubled their advantage but he blazed over and we equalised thanks to a superb Kieran McAnespie free-kick in 38 minutes.
White fired Albion in front with his third goal of the season four minutes after the interval when he found the corner with a cool finish after muscling in beyond the Whitehill defence.
We looked largely comfortable at 2-1 up but failed to finish off the tie and a slack passback from Phil Johnston allowed sub Dayne Robertson to nip in – when his effort was cleared off the line it was a simple task for Steve Manson to net the equaliser.
A stunning save from McGurk denied McAnespie a second free-kick goal while Mickey Lawson’s men felt they might have had a penalty in the closing stages.
