Queen’s Park preview
Stirling Albion head for Hampden Park on Saturday to take on a Queen’s Park side who have been hit hard by a number of summer departures. It will be our only visit to Mount Florida this season – the Spiders are moving to Airdrie in November while the stadium gets a makeover for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Team news: Skipper Jamie Bishop returns from a one-match ban and striker Bradley Coyne is hoping to shake off an ankle injury. Winger Phil Johnston picked up a knock in training on Thursday and is rated doubtful. Queen’s Park duo Paul Gallacher and David Anderson are injured while Ricki Lamie and Bernard Coll are suspended.
This season: Queen’s Park lost a huge number of players over the summer and are still looking for their first point in League 2 after defeats to East Stirlingshire (1-3), Berwick (0-4) and Clyde (0-3). We started with back-to-back wins over Montrose and Peterhead before being beaten 3-1 by East Stirling last week.
Last season: Queen’s Park were the only team we didn’t beat last season, with the Spiders twice winning at Forthbank. Gardner Speirs’ men also came out on top at Hampden in November thanks to a last-minute penalty and it was 2-2 in the most recent meeting in April. Our last victory at the National Stadium was 4-1 in February 2004 when David O’Brien, Colin McKinnon, Scott McLean and Derek Lyle got our goals.
