Our first game in the newly-formed SPFL takes us to Links Park to play Montrose in a Scottish League Two encounter on Saturday.
Stuart Garden’s side just missed out on the play-offs last season while we are hoping to continue the good form that saw us lose just twice in 17 league games from February onwards. We haven’t lost our opening league match since 2008.
Team news: Stephen Day is suspended due to a one-match ban carried over from 2012/13 and Sandy Cunningham is unavailable but midfielder David McClune is expected to return to the squad. Former Falkirk midfielder Dale Fulton is added but fellow new recruit David Weatherston is short of match practice and could miss out. Montrose are minus banned trio Garry Wood, Paul Watson and David Gray.
Last season: Josh Flood grabbed a late equaliser in our 2-2 draw at Links Park in April but we lost 3-2 at the end of December despite a Scott Davidson double. Our two home games with Montrose in 2012/13 ended in a 3-1 win apiece.
Early form: We lost 2-1 at Raith in the Ramsdens Cup and were well beaten 3-0 by Hamilton in the League Cup. Montrose went down 2-0 away to Elgin in the Ramsdens Cup but claimed an impressive 1-0 win over Arbroath at Gayfield to earn a League Cup round-two tie against Morton at Cappielow.
Opening day: We won 5-1 at home to Annan a year ago and were 1-0 winners over East Fife two seasons ago. We kicked off our First Division campaign of 2010/11 with a 0-0 draw at Morton and it was also 0-0 in 2009/10, when Stenhousemuir visited.
