Stirling Albion make their live TV debut when we face Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday, kick-off 12 noon for coverage on ESPN. We are 14/1 outsiders against Ally McCoist’s team, who can clinch the Third Division title this weekend if they beat the Binos and Queen’s Park drop points at Annan later in the day.
Team news: Brian Allison and Kieran McAnespie are both suspended but Gary Thom returns from a one-match ban. Keeper David Crawford and forward Graham Weir are available after injury but the game comes too soon for Ross McGeachie. Rangers are without top scorer Andy Little, who is on international duty with Northern Ireland. Midfielder Ian Black is suspended, Dean Shiels is injured and Kevin Kyle this week left the club. Ross Perry, Lewis MacLeod, David Templeton and Darren Cole are all out and Fran Sandaza has been suspended by the club. Youngster Andy Murdoch is added to the squad and Kyle Hutton returns.
Past meetings: Brian Allison scored the only goal when we beat Rangers for only the second time in our history, 1-0 at Forthbank on October 6. Our only other success was 2-0 at Annfield in September 1953. Rangers beat us 2-0 at Ibrox in December but Ross Forsyth’s header earned us a 1-1 draw at Forthbank last month. Prior to this season, the teams had not met on league business since 1967/68.
Match facts: We have lost only one of our last nine matches – 1-0 away to Berwick – and head to Ibrox on the back of a record-breaking 9-1 win over East Stirling a fortnight ago. Our only away league victory to date was 2-1 at Elgin at the beginning of March. Rangers suffered their first home defeat of 2012/13 when Annan won 2-1 at Ibrox earlier this month, although Elgin and Montrose have earned draws in Glasgow since the turn of the year.
