Stirling v Elgin – match preview

We welcome Elgin City to Forthbank this weekend for the first time since we won a Scottish Cup tie 2-1 against the former Highland League outfit in November 2005. Ross Jack’s team are just two points behind leaders Rangers and are the top scorers in Division Three while we are three points adrift of Clyde at the foot of the table.

Team news: Albion are without banned trio Greig McDonald, Sam Filler and Gary Thom. Shaun Fagan left the club on Thursday and Kieran McAnespie and Danny Ashe are injured. Daly McSorley has been ill and is also set to miss out. David Niven and Mark Nicolson are rated 50/50 for Elgin.

Past meetings: Elgin came out on top 3-1 at Borough Briggs in August despite an early Scott Davidson goal. The last league meeting at Forthbank was back in March 2004 when we enjoyed a 6-1 win en route to promotion from Division Three.

Match facts: Elgin’s only away win was at East Stirlingshire but their only defeat was at Ibrox. They have drawn their other three matches on the road. Both our wins have come at Forthbank – against Annan and Rangers – but we go into the match on the back of a 5-2 defeat at Annan while Elgin defeated Berwick 3-1 at home.

Stirling Albion manager Greig McDonald: “We are low on numbers but we showed at Annan when we went down to nine men that we have a terrific spirit.”

Elgin boss Ross Jack: “I am not getting taken in by Stirling’s position in the table as they have very experienced players and things will fall into place for them soon.”
