The William Hill Scottish Cup takes centre stage this weekend when we face Deveronvale in a third-round encounter at Forthbank. The Highland League team shocked Peterhead 3-2 at home in round two while we defeated Dalbeattie Star 5-0 away. Whoever comes out on top can look forward to a fourth-round tie on Saturday December 1.
Team news: Albion have injury doubts over skipper Brian Allison and Danny Ashe, who both missed last week’s 2-2 draw at Peterhead. Striker Steven Weir is still suspended and Bradley Coyne is long-term injured. Player/manager Greig McDonald is available after returning from his honeymoon.
Meet our visitors: Deveronvale squad 2012/13
Past meetings: We won 3-1 in Banff in a Ramsdens Cup tie at the start of last season but suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Vale in the only Scottish Cup meeting between the teams in 1960/61.
Scottish Cup facts: We are bidding to reach the fourth round for the first time 2009/10, having lost to Partick Thistle and Dundee at this stage in the last two years. This is our first tie against Highland League opponents since 2005/06 when Chris Hay scored a last-minute winner against Inverurie Locos at Forthbank.
Stirling Albion manager Greig McDonald: “They are going well in the Highland League and had a terrific result against Peterhead so we are well warned.”
Deveronvale boss Charlie Charlesworth: “In the last round we played fantastically well in the first half and we will need a display like that to get through again.”
