SAFC 1-0 Rangers – what the papers said…

It’s not often that Stirling Albion are making the back-page headlines in Sunday’s newspapers but then yesterday’s 1-0 win over Rangers at Forthbank was a pretty rare event! Here’s what a few of today’s papers are saying about our famous victory…

Sunday Herald – Underdogs’ Finest Hour
“It was a momentous occasion for Stirling, not least because their form has been abject. They sat so deep that there was no room for Rangers to run in behind and were so well organised that there were no gaps to play through.”

Sunday Mail – Wed Faces All Round
“Brian Allison swept the ball home after just nine minutes and the Binos held on for their first win over the Ibrox club since September 1953 as Rangers suffered one of the worst defeats in their history.”

The Sun – Stir Crazy
“Captain Allison was a rock but every single Stirling player deserved a commendation. Goalkeepers Sam Filler and Mark Peat both produced wonder saves to ensure Stirling celebrated the greatest result in their 67-year history.”

Scotland on Sunday – Stirling defy the odds to record a famous victory
“There was no mistaking Stirling’s tactics – they were in their opponents’ faces at every opportunity and they produced a classic backs-to-the-wall defensive performance after Brian Allison’s early goal.”

Sunday Post – 1953 all over again!
“Stirling Albion boss Greig McDonald couldn’t have believed he would miss such a historic day but his team even overcame the loss of their goalkeeper at half-time to claim an amazing three points and their first win over Rangers in 59 years.”

Sunday Express – Struggling Binos bewilder Gers
“Rangers suffered a shock first defeat in the Third Division by crashing to bottom side Stirling Albion, who had lost their last five league outings, as manager Greig McDonald received a special wedding present.”
